Its been almost 3 years since my last news post. I'm a junior in college now and I'm a photographer and videographer. I still check in on Newgrounds a few times a month. Well, thats about it.
I'm still sorta here. I've just become more busy with other things. I got into my top choice college so now I'm just kinda riding out high school. I've been playing guitar and excessively playing Pokemon again. That's pretty much all that is new I guess.
edit: Heres a short video I'm in about my school's Video Club.
The Newgrounds NYC Meet was this weekend, and I must say that it was EXTREMELY AWESOME. I only went Friday though :/ I had a lot of fun hanging out meeting up with friends from last year and meeting awesome artist. Karaoke was a lot of fun and traveling to Brooklyn with a bunch of people. I can't wait for next years.
Not much else is new. I recorded this though, so please check it out and leave feedback.
I checked out some colleges in the Mid West (Columbia College and Ball State University) last week. Ball State really impressed me with it's campus life, resources and facilities, food, people, etc. Very awesome school. It's currenly my first choice. Columbia College failed to impress me though, as it's programs and equipment for Telecommunications were not worth the 20 Grand tuition. Besides, a lot of what they're teaching is what I already do.
So, I'm retaking my SAT May 5th, which is also the day of the Newgrounds NYC Meet Up. That'll be a busy day o_0
Lastly, I'm beginning to write music again. Look out for any new songs in the near future.
With the third quarter of my highschool Junior year ending in a couple of days, shit is getting pretty crazy with college and what not. Holy Toledo.
I've been recording covers of songs and songs I've written recently and I've uploaded them to both the Audio Portal and Soundcloud. czech'em out.
There isn't much new stuff going on for me since my last post. I will be checking out colleges in the first week of April, making a trip to either:
Columbia College in Chicago and Ball State University in Muncie
Checking out a few colleges north around the New York Metropolitan Area and Massachusetts
Checking out a few colleges south between home and Virginia.
Fun. It's hard to comprehend though that in less than 18 months, I will be sitting in a college class and doing whatever college guys do. My SAT scores will be released today, so that's something I'm a bit anxious about. After getting a 1540 on my Sophomore PSAT and a 1640 on my Juniour PSAT this past fall without studying for either, I might've done fine on this SAT. However, from what I've heard, the tests really are pretty different (Apart from the essay, I didn't think so), and I almost always score lower than I expect on tests, so who knows. I will be retaking it whether or not it's good.
That's pretty much all, folks.
There is a music fest known as the Newport Folk Festival at the end of July this year, and it has some amazing bands playing. I'd like to go, but I'd want to go with friends. Does anyone show an interest?
P.S.S. As mentioned in the title, here is the word "Poop". I'm a man of my word.
My 2nd semester of Junior year began a little over a week ago. I can't believe I'm looking at colleges. I'm doing poorly in school, failing Algebra 2/trig and passing Physics by the skin of my teeth. I'm not aiming for a great school, but one that will teach me what I need to know for Film and Television production, and perhaps writing too. I've been looking at Ball State University, Columbia College in Chicago, Syracuse University (A major reach), SUNY schools, and a number of others. I hope there's work needed for that kind of thing in the world.
In the fall I had my first opportunity to direct a shoot for a school play (Our Town). It was a 3-night event so we had 3 shoots. I was meant to direct one act each night (originally act 1, then changed to act 3), but after a girl quit I volunteered to take over for her and directed two of three acts each night. I apparently did very well for my first time, according to my supervisor. I came after school to the school's TV studio everyday for a couple of weeks to edit the entire play by myself. I had never done any of this before, and I think the fact that I did well and it all clicked means that this is what I'm meant to do.
I've joined millions of people in being in an unemployed family. My mother has been unemployed 3 years as of last month and my father was fired 3 months ago. It's weird to think that 7 years ago, I lived in a nice big house with my 3 sisters, a dog, and both parents, while being spoiled. And now I live in a house half the size with just my mom, and we're broke. My world has truly "been flip turned upside down."
My dad had a secret marriage a year and a half ago with his girlfriend of 4 years. My sisters and I only found out recently when we all received texts and e-mails asking us about our dad's marriage and congratulating us. It turns out his "wife" decided to change her Facebook status to "married". Following this, I excommunicated my father from my life.
My music has been slow and crappy. I've only been teaching myself to play covers instead of creating new songs. I can't feel the new music come to me anymore. I hope it doesn't stay like this. As you can see though, I've been uploading piano covers of a number of Iron & Wine songs. Check 'em out. They're not fabulous but whatever.
So, my life isn't in a good spot now. It needs more happiness and ease. It's sad to say that it seems my only "escape" left is to the internet.
Back when I first stumbled on Newgrounds (2003) the site was quite different. Mainly by the looks, but there was no Art portal, the BBS and the store were quite basic, and other shit. I remember having to click on a flash's icon, then it would take me to a page with reviews, score, etc, and you had to click on another icon (or I usually just pressed "Pop-up (something)" and the flash would open in a new window and play.
Things have changed dramatically in the almost 10 years I've been on this site. This is the third design I've experienced in my time here. I wonder what's next.
